Oats rotis or chapati
Hi there guys! First of all, its a peculiar time we all are facing.. Covid-19 has changed our lives in a way that we never imagined. Most of the people I know are in isolation, and I thought, this is a time for me to come up with some healthy staple recipes so that after all this we don’t end up coming out unhealthy and with more health problems. I have been making this oats recipe for years, but never got a chance to upload it
Serving size : 5 rotis
Time : 20-25 min with resting time
INGREDIENTS
2 cups of rolled oats ( not the microwavable type)
1 cup of water
Pinch of salt
Few sprays of olive oil ( optional)
METHOD
In a high-speed blender blend the rolled oats to a very fine consistency. Sieve the mixture well to achieve a flour-like consistency ( important as this will give you a fairy softer, grit-free chapati). Now add the salt and whisk to combine.
Boil water and add 1/2 cup oats at a time; mix with a spoon.
Keep mixing until you get a thick dough ( this will take some time as it will be sticky at first, but don’t worry, keep mixing, and it will get thicker.)
Now, roll the dough to a ball and cover for 20 min ( important step)
Take small dough balls to the hand, add oat flour to a dry surface and roll the chapatis to the desired shape using a rolling pin ( tip: do not make the chapatis too thin as this may make the chapatis crispy)
In a flat skillet, add few sprays of oil and cook the chapatis 20 seconds each side.
You can enjoy this with spicy curry on the side or even as a wrap.
*I have kept the cooked once in the fridge and microwaved for 20 seconds before I eat them.
You can even keep the dough in the fridge and make it as you need it too!
Enjoy !
