Spicy cuttlefish ( Sri Lankan inspired)
Serving size: 2
Prep and Cook time: 15-25 minutes
INGREDIENTS
400g of squid chopped
One onion sliced
4-5 green chillies cut sideways
Five garlic cloves chopped
Thumb size ginger crushed
1 tbsp honey ( in Sri Lanka usually use sugar to caramelise the onions)
One tbsp-2 tbsp red chilli flakes, not powder
1/2 tsp curry powder ( optional but will definitely add some flavour)
2-3 sprays of olive oil
1 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp soy sauce ( I use coconut amnios or light soy sauce)
1 tsp turmeric
1 Cinnamon stick
1 tbsp chilli sauce of choice
METHOD
In a pan add the chopped squid and some water ( just to cover the squid), turmeric, pepper and salt
Boil for about 10 min and set it aside.
In a skillet add few sprays of oil, onion and the honey and caramelise the onions until golden brown
Add the garlic, ginger paste, cinnamon stick, green chillies, red chillies and keep sauteeing for about 5-6 min until everything mixed well.
Add the boiled squid and the chilli sauce; sautΓ© for a further 5-6 min and taste test.
This is a completely healthy option to the oil and sugar loaded devilled squid you eat at a restaurant
Taste is amazing as well.
